Fun things for Kids

  • Hallmark's Kaleidoscope
    Hands-on creative art experience for ages 5-12 sponsored by Hallmark cards.
  • Cool Crest
    Miniature golf courses, go-karts, arcade and more.
  • Family Golf Park
    Bumper boats, miniature golf, arcade and more.
  • Crown Center
    Outdoor ice skating rink open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. daily November through March, weather permitting.
  • Worlds of Fun
    Amusement park with rides. Also includes Oceans of Fun, which has beaches, boating, water slides and a wave pool.
  • Snow Creek
     Skiing on man-made snow daily from mid-December to mid-March.

Things to do with Nature

  • Cave Spring Park
    Nature center. Trails include a cave, springs & wildlife habitats. Picnic area also.
  • Ernie Miller Park
    Life reptiles, nature trails with lots of educational activities.
  • Thompson Nature Sanctuary
    Private sanctuary for native wildlife & plants covers 100 acres/has 4 miles of hiking trails.
  • Powell Gardens
    Botanical garden has perennial plantings and an island garden.

Local Theatre

  • UMKC Center for Performing Arts
    Performs dramas, comedies, and musicals in the UMKC Center for Performing Arts.
  • KC Starlight
    Outdoor theatre in Swope Park that offers music concerts and musical theater.
  • New Theatre
    Presents comedies and musicals in a dinner theater setting.
  • Midwest Trust Center
    Dramas, comedies, musicals and concerts in the Johnson County Community College performing arts theaters. 
  • Unicorn Theatre
    The Unicorn Theatre exists to enhance the cultural life of Kansas City by producing professional contemporary, thought-provoking theater, which inspires emotional response and stimulates discussion.
