John Hanysz is a coordinator in the Registrar's Office and your School Certifying Official!
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, John joined the United States Marine Corps in 1977 and attended boot camp in sunny San Diego, California. He graduated from basic training with honors and was accepted to Embassy School Duty in Washington, D.C. John was 0341 Mortarman, 0101 Admin Clerk Primary and secondary Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). John served in the United States on the West Coast MCRD, Washington D.C. Marine Corps Headquarters, and at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
He joined our staff in October 2017 with 25 years of experience in higher education and student services. In his free time, John enjoys working on automobiles and donates his talents repairing cars for those who cannot afford to do so otherwise. He loves reading about history, particularly Roman, and has a fascination with the past. John enjoys fixing things around his home and has a never-ending list of projects. He lives in Overland Park with his wife, Sherri, and their dogs, Bristol and Adaline. John uses his military experience to build relationships with KU Medical Center's military and veteran students and enjoys establishing connections with the students and staff he serves.
