Costs and Financial Aid

The costs of our program are very competitive when compared to similar programs in the U.S. and financial aid is available through KU School of Health Professions.

The University of Kansas Nurse Anesthesia Education program provides a high-value education that's competitive with other top nurse anesthesia doctoral degree programs.

Employment During the Program

As a program participant, you will have a full course schedule and should expect to spend up to 64 hours per week dedicated to fulfilling clinic responsibilities, attending classes and studying. Because of the intense and demanding nature of this program, we strongly discourage employment during the program.

The department chair reserves the right to disallow any employment if there is evidence of clinical or academic deficiencies that jeopardize the student’s progress. At no time will a student be employed as an anesthesia provider. Students receive two weeks of discretionary leave annually. In order to be successful in this program, students must be flexible.

Tuition and Fees

You pay tuition and fees at the beginning of each semester. The Kansas Board of Regents establishes tuition and fees. These may change at any time without notice. Visit the Registrar's Comprehensive Fee Schedule for complete, current tuition information. You may also find the interactive tuition and fees calculator helpful (select the dropdowns for KUMC Graduate and Nurse Anesthesia).

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to qualified students. We encourage all students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be considered for federal aid. The FAFSA may also be used to determine eligibility for scholarships.

To complete the FAFSA, please visit studentaid.gov and provide the school code for the University of Kansas: 001948.

Federal assistance includes the following:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
  • Federal Work Study
  • Federal Direct Loans (subsidized, unsubsidized, Parent PLUS)

Students are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA by the March 1 deadline. Don't wait to be accepted into the doctoral program before beginning the financial aid process. Even if the application deadline for the intended program is later in the year, students are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA by March 1. Please contact the KU Medical Center Office of Student Financial Aid with any questions.

Scholarships

The Health Professions Pipeline Scholarship is designed to give students a financial boost when beginning a program in the School of Health Professions, and then to continue that support during their pursuit of a degree from KU. Recipients receive up to $3,000 for one academic year. This amount automatically renews each year as long as the student remains in good standing in their academic program.

The goal of this award is to provide educational opportunities for students from a wide variety of different backgrounds, including socioeconomic status, geographic location, ethnicity, race, sex and gender in order to create career opportunities and to build a diverse health care workforce to improve the lives of our communities.

Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria to be eligible:

  1. Offered admission and have accepted the position to an academic program in the KU School of Health Professions.
  2. Demonstrate financial need based on FAFSA guidelines and eligibility.
  3. One of the following:
    • First-generation college student (parents did not complete a college or university degree), or
    • Identify as American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; or
    • Have a current address or hometown in rural Kansas, with past or current experience living in a rural Kansas community. For the purpose of this award, rural is considered any Kansas county with fewer than 150 persons per square mile as classified by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment using 2020 Census numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau (PDF).

Questions about this award should be directed to the department's main office.
