Student Resources
Find resources and information to prepare for your clinical education experiences in KU's doctorate degree in physical therapy.
One of the primary missions of KU's physical therapy degree program is to develop caring physical therapists who exemplify the highest level of clinical expertise and knowledge. In this program, we look for individuals who will enrich the dignity and quality of the human experience by optimizing movement and maximizing functional potential.
Clinical education is an integral part of the KU physical therapy program. This includes providing you with opportunities to practice and apply the concepts and skills learned in the classroom to real-world patient care settings. Participation in a wide variety of experiences fosters the development of a well-rounded, versatile physical therapist and assists with the assessment of future career interests, goals and needs.
In your final year of the program, you'll engage in clinical settings for either three consecutive 12-week or four consecutive 9-week full-time experiences. The director of clinical education will coordinate all clinical placements. More than 250 clinical sites across the U.S. serve as potential training locations for our students. In addition, international clinical training opportunities are available — see details below.
During the matching process, your input is considered alongside factors like availability at each site. We will be happy to provide guidance as you prepare to fill out the clinical placement request forms.
We recommend you review the clinical education program policies and procedures (PDF) and view specific clinical education courses.
