Faculty from the Department of Hearing and Speech are actively engaged in clinical experiences within the local community.
Lindsey Heidrick, SLPD, CCC-SLP
Director of the Speech Clinic at KU Medical Center, Heidrick has experience with both adult and pediatric speech-language pathology. Her clinical interests include neurodegenerative disease and impacts on communication, swallowing and cognition.
She also provides patient care as a speech-language pathologist at numerous locations including the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Center of Excellence, Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic, Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Center, an outpatient neurology clinic.
Julie Mujica, M.A., CCC-SLP
A pediatric speech-language pathologist, Mujica works on an interdisciplinary team for developmental evaluations with Developmental Pediatrics. She also serves as the faculty supervisor for the LEND grant (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities). Mujica provides individual therapy for young children at the Speech Clinic at KU Medical Center.
Mujica specializes in early childhood pediatric speech-language pathology. Her clinical interests include neurodevelopmental disorders, language disorders, speech sound disorders and family centered practice.
Melanie Somogie, M.A., CCC-SLP
Somogie has experience in adult neurogenic and geriatric speech-language pathology. She provides clinical care at the Speech Clinic at KU Medical Center and in the community through communication groups for adults.
Her clinical interests include neurodegenerative disease, acquired brain injuries, and aging impacts on communication, swallowing and cognition.
Kelly Berry, M.A., CCC-SLP
Berry is a clinical assistant professor and Ph.D. student in the Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders. She teaches two courses at the master’s level, Evaluation of Speech and Language, and School Aged Language Disorders. Berry is the clinical educator at Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (formerly CCHD), The University of Kansas Health System Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic and Holy Name Catholic Elementary School. Her research interests include implementation science and scholarship of teaching and learning.
